Preserving Family Histories
- Introduction: A Wiki Website is one way to preserve family history with many people adding content. Typically, anyone related to the family that creates the website can post information regarding births, deaths, marriages, and any other pertinent dates. There are many formats for organizing the information. You can set-up a timeline with information posted in chronological order. You can devote a page to a family member. You could make a tree that shows the relationships of the family members.
- Why Wiki?
- Fast - It only takes a minute and an email address to get it started (really)
- Cheap - Is free cheap enough?? Upgrades are nice and reasonable also, especially when your site grows
- Easy - Part of the problem of using a website to trace family history is that one person typically does all of the work. With this format everyone can add content to the site. And, the more often the site is updated, the more traffic it will attract.
- Formats:
- Timeline - information is posted on a page devoted to a certain year.
- Family Tree -
